Meet Katie Chin, MA, LPC

Welcome! I'm Katie Chin, a Licensed Professional Counselor with 17 years experience serving the Greater Milwaukee area. I've worked across behavioral health levels—including inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs—gaining a comprehensive view of client challenges.

A Wisconsin native, I earned my BA in Psychology and Criminology from Marquette University (2005) and MA in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (2009). Between degrees, I worked as a Montessori assistant teacher, fueling my passion for child development and family support.

My foundation in assessment skills and evidence-based therapies—Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention—began during graduate studies and sharpened over 15 years at Rogers Behavioral Health Hospital. I take a client-centered approach, applying practical strategies for anxiety, depression, ADHD, social skills, relational stress, chronic pain, and behavioral goals. I work with children (ages 3+), adolescents, young adults, midlife, and older adults—each life phase uniquely special.

My goal is to create a confidential and easily accessible counseling space in the community I love. Together, we'll build insight and support, develop coping skills, and take meaningful steps toward your goals. Schedule your free 20 minute consultation today!

Outside clinical work, I'm a proud mom, wife, and youngest of six siblings—roles that deepen my appreciation for empathy, patience, connection, and resilience. I enjoy outdoor walks, nutritious cooking, cozy family weekends, and recently discovered pickleball.

Treatment

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps individuals identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. This structured approach teaches you how to reframe negative thinking and adopt healthier ways of coping.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT integrates mindfulness and emotional regulation strategies to help manage intense emotions, reduce distress, and improve relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, DBT is now widely used for anxiety, mood disorders, and interpersonal challenges.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) SKILLS

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a proven, evidence-based approach designed to strengthen the bond between parents and young children (ages 2–7). It helps improve communication and fosters positive behaviors, making it especially helpful for families navigating challenges like emotional outbursts, impulse control, or attention difficulties.

Through graduate training at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology Forensic Center, I observed the positive impact these skills can have on strengthening executive functioning and family dynamics. I continue to use these skills professionally and as a parent. Even on days when I’m exhausted, PCIT techniques like the PRIDE skills help me stay present and intentional during play and homework time with my kids.

Ready to learn more about how PCIT skills can help your family thrive? Telehealth is making it even easier. Contact me today to schedule a consultation.

Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP is the gold-standard treatment for OCD and other anxiety disorders. Clients are gradually exposed to anxiety-provoking situations while learning to resist compulsions and avoidance, allowing their anxiety to naturally decrease over time yet still facing it head-on.

Behavior Activation

Behavior Activation Theory focuses on helping individuals engage in the behaviors and activities that are meaningful and rewarding to them. Behavior Activation is often used to treat symptoms of depression and other mental health conditions, as it helps individuals break the cycle of avoidance and inactivity that can reinforce these symptoms.
